Portrait

I am Assistant Professor with tenure track for English Literature since 1800. I wrote my doctoral thesis on figurations of exile in Alfred Hitchcock and Vladimir Nabokov and my postdoctoral thesis (Habilitationsschrift) on the public voice of the actress, singer, speaker and preacher in narrative fiction produced in the long nineteenth-century. My research interests include literary and cultural theory, psychoanalysis, gender, film, visual culture, celebrity, seriality as well as literature and economic criticism. I am currently working on a larger research project entitled “IOU: Debt in the Victorian Novel” and a book on Queen Elizabeth I as the first political diva. I also take a strong interest in female eccentrics. For more detailed descriptions of my projects, please follow this link:

I particularly welcome research proposals from students in these and related areas.
