Lehrdiplom: Application and Admission

The following tables merely outline the minimum admission requirements. To complete the Lehrdiplom, students will have to fulfill the requirements outlined in the section on completing the Lehrdiplom.

Any discrepancy between the minimum requirements for admission and the requirements for completing the Lehrdiplom will be set as conditions and/or additional requirements (see below) at the point of application.

In order to be admitted to the Lehrdiplom, students must fulfill the following minimum requirements:

English as first or only teaching subject

Literature

Linguistics

Completed Bachelor with at least 60 ECTS in English Studies

8 ECTS

10 ECTS

Note: For English as a first teaching subject, student need to study English as their major (at the very least at Master level, but ideally at Bachelor level as well).

English as second teaching subject

Literature

Linguistics

Completed Bachelor with at least 30 ECTS in English Studies

8 ECTS

10 ECTS

Important: Students must either be enrolled in a UZH Master program or have completed their Master studies before they can be admitted to the Lehrdiplom.

What Happens after the Application Has Been Processed?

Once their application documents have been processed, applicants will receive one of the following responses:

  • Direct admission: no conditions or additional requirements.
  • Admission with additional requirements: students may begin their Lehrdiplom studies, but they also have to fulfill additional requirements.
  • Conditional admission: Students have to fulfill certain conditions before being allowed to start their Lehrdiplom studies.
  • Admission with conditions as well as additional requirements: Students have to fulfill certain conditions before being allowed to start their Lehrdiplom studies, as well as certain additional requirements.
  • Denial of Admission: The candidate's degree does not meet the minimum requirements.
