Table of contents
We are very pleased to announce that the library has reopened its doors on
Monday, June 8.
The library is open for returns, all other services must be booked in advance
by email or the reservation tool (see below).
Current opening hours:
Mon-Fri, 10:00-12:00 and 13:00-16:00
Please read the information on this page carefully to avoid safety hazards and unnecessary waiting.
Due to the coronavirus, there are a number of restrictions and measures to ensure the safety of users as well as staff. The reading room is still closed until further notice and there is no access to shelves for users.
During the period of the lockdown, no fines were issued. From June 8, regular loan periods will apply and books need to be returned. Reminders will be sent out from June 8, and fines from the middle of June. In case you prefer not to travel, you can also return books by post. In the latter case, please send off the books a few days early so that they arrive in time before fines are issued.
The free mailing and scanning service will be upheld until July 31.
If no online version is available, UZH members (students and staff) can request scans of journal articles or book chapters etc. and order books free of charge to their homes until July 31. Instructions on how to order are provided below.
In case you need help with your research, please do not hesitate to contact us via email to firstname.lastname@example.org and we will reply as soon as possible.
Please consult our website for current updates.
You are not allowed to enter the building when showing any symptoms of illness.
Please approach the building from Pestalozzistrasse, so that you can wash your hands before entering the library. The glass door on the other side of the building is reserved for exits. Hand and surface disinfectant will be provided. There is no need to wear masks, but if you prefer to do so, please bring your own.
Please note that a maximum of four visitors to borrow or return media is allowed to enter the library at the moment, so you may need to wait outside.
We ask you to keep the required two-metre distance at all times and take note of the instructions and signposting on site.
Users are not allowed to access the bookshelves at the moment, so please order your required media in advance (see below).
Returned books are quarantined before re-loan is possible.
Please note that the copy machine/scanner can be used, but due to space restrictions and ventilation requirements, only one person is allowed to enter the copy room at any time.
Borrowing books and other media on site
Please check online access first.
If you want to borrow any media, please send your order via email to email@example.com so that we can prepare everything in advance, as users are not allowed to access shelves at the moment. We will let you know by email when your order is ready to be picked up. There is no need to let us know when exactly you will be coming.
Booking of study places at ES library
Should you need to do research in the library, a limited number of study places are available in the English Department library. These must be booked from 48 hours to one hour in advance using the online reservation tool (link below). These places are available for six hours; from 10:00 to 16:00. Users are asked to bring their own computer if at all possible.
Please make your reservation in the booked tool.
If you already know which books you would like to consult, please enter the shelf marks under "Bemerkungen" in the booking tool so that we can prepare everything for you in advance, or send us an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you need to conduct corpus searches, please state this under "Bemerkungen" in the booking tool.
If you change your mind about using a research place, please cancel your reservation up to an hour in advance.
Please note: External users who wish to use this service must send their booking request by email to email@example.com as the booking tool can be accessed only by UZH members.

NEW: Without a VPN-connection to the UZH network, searching for e-media can be tedious because it isn't clear whether a particular item or publisher is licensed by UZH/ZB. Lean Library presents a solution to this problem. Please click on the link for more information and instructions for download and installation.
