Sample Timetable:
Track "English Linguistics Only"

Disclaimer: The applicable legal regulations can be found in the framework ordinance (Rahmenverordnung) and the program regulation (Studienordnung) for the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Preliminary Remarks

The following sample timetables suggest some of the ways in which one can study the recommended "Linguistics" track of the Master Major in English Literature and/or Linguistics (90 ECTS).

There are two examples for students who study full-time and who intend to complete their studies in four semesters. In addition, there are two examples for part-time students with a two-third workload (i.e. 66.7%).

Note: None of these sample timetables are binding; they are intended as examples or 'templates.'

Full-Time Students: Two Examples

Important: It is not mandatory to complete one's studies in four semesters. (Students with additional requirements ("Auflagen") will almost certainly need five or more semesters to complete their studies.)

Sample Timetable for Full-Time Students (Example 1)

  • Students can start their studies either in the fall or in the spring semester.
  • In the case of two-semester modules, the total number of ECTS points is 'spread out' over two semesters.
  • In principle, it is possible to go abroad at any point. However, the final semester is not ideal for a stay abroad. Please consult the Study Abroad section of the ES website for more details.

Part-Time Students: Two Examples

Important: While there is no minimum number of credits required per semester, a workload of 60% or more is recommended. (The two examples below are for a two-thirds workload.)

Sample Timetable for Part-Time Students: 66.7% (Example 1)

  • Students can start their studies either in the fall or in the spring semester.
  • In the case of two-semester modules, the total number of ECTS points is 'spread out' over two semesters.
  • A full-time workload is 30 ECTS per semester (Major and Minor combined). However, students are free to reduce the workload per semester, thus allowing for part-time study (i.e. there is no minimum number of credits required per semester).
  • The total number of credits for a 66.7% workload is c. 20 ECTS per semester (Major and Minor combined).
  • As the overall requirements for the Master degree stay the same (120 ECTS), taking fewer credits per semester means that one will need more time to complete one's studies.
  • Depending on the requirements of your Minor, the template below will have to be adjusted.
  • In principle, it is possible to go abroad at any point. However, the first and the final semesters are not ideal for a stay abroad. Please consult the Study Abroad section of the ES website for more details.
