Prerequisites

Students are expected to know the core concepts of different areas of linguistics. They need to have experience with data analysis for linguistic research projects and they are expected to have written term papers in English linguistics at Bachelor-level. Students are required to have good (written) academic English language skills (Level C1). Students are expected to have taken the Methods and Theories in English Linguistics Module or equivalent Master-level courses elsewhere, and ideally one seminar paper in linguistics at Master level.

Content

Seminars in this module cover specialised areas in English linguistics.

Learning outcomes

Students learn to collaborate on a joint project, including data collection, database development and project management skills. Students develop their own research design on the basis of relevant theoretical and methodological literature, present this in class and develop their ideas and analyses into a research paper. They are able to critically reflect on their choice of method/theory and apply this in their data analysis.
