Updates on Changes to the Bachelor and Master Programs in English

In response to the curriculum survey in 2021 (in which over 180 students participated), the English Department has implemented several changes to the Bachelor and Master programs.

Bachelor Programs: Overview of Changes

Changes to the Bachelor Major (120 ECTS)

  • From the spring semester 2024, the modules "Writing Skills and Media Analysis: Focus" and "Writing Skills and Media Analysis: Explorations" will no longer be offered. Until and including the spring semester 2023, students wishing to graduate had to take at least one of these modules (mandatory-elective requirement of 6 ECTS in the module group "Language Skills and Culture"). From the fall semester 2023, these 6 ECTS will be added to the elective component. – Of course, if you have already completed one or both of these modules, the ECTS points will remain valid (see requirements page for the Bachelor Major).
  • From the spring semester 2024, the LSC team will be able to offer new elective modules. These may include modules such as "Digital Literacies" or "Creative Writing," though topics and titles may vary. These new modules will be offered in the spring semester, not (usually) in the fall.

Changes to the Bachelor Minor (60 ECTS)

  • There are no changes to the Bachelor Minor. Students will be free to book the new LSC electives mentioned above, but these elective modules will not cover any of the program requirements. The reason for this is that there is no elective component in the Bachelor Minor.

Master Programs: Overview of Changes

Changes to the Master Major (90 ECTS) and Minor (30 ECTS)

  • From the fall semester 2023, the mandatory LSC module will be called "Writing Skills for Research." Prior to the fall semester 2023, this module was called "Writing Skills and Popular Culture." Note, however, that the module code stays the same (06SM440-800). Students who have already completed the old version of the module will not have to re-take it (i.e. the modules are considered equivalent). Students who failed the old version of the module will have only one additional attempt to complete the module (i.e. one does not get two new attempts, as this is not an entirely new module, but simply a redesigned version of the old module).

  • From the spring semester 2024, the LSC team will be able to offer new elective modules. These may include modules such as "Digital Literacies" or "Creative Writing," though topics and titles may vary. These new modules will be offered in the spring semester, not (usually) in the fall.

  • From the fall semester 2023, the English Department will introduce a number of new elective modules (see table below). These modules will not be offered on a regular basis, but will complement the core modules (i.e. the mandatory modules, Research Seminars, and lectures). More information will be made available in due course.
