O Africa, my Africa
Land of Proud Ancestral Spirits
I have never known you
But your blood flows in my veins
Your beaufiful, black blood flows in my veins
O Africa
We come to pay homage to you, our Motherland
We have come as your sons and daughters
To honour you
To adore you
To worship you
To pay homage to you
In paying homage to you, Mother Africa
We want to tell your story
That great story that begins with the beginnings of all mankind
All humanity
This is your story, Africa
For you are the beginning of all Things
Of all philosophies
All ideas
All sciences
You, yes, you are the beginning of them all
Yet
You are abused
Condemned
Insulted
Your enemies say you created nothing
You have given nothing to humanity
They forget that you
Yes, You, Africa, are humanity
In spite of all your greatness, Mother Africa
You stand today, an infant
A weakling, a pitiful shadow of yourself
After all of your inventions
After all of your conquests, Africa
After all and all
With all your wealth –
Your gold
Diamond
Iron
Your oil
Spices
With all of your sunlight
And your age
Yes, your age
They call you Dark and Young
Yes
Dark and Young
You were, Mother Africa, before Man was
And yet, they call you Young
We said
We came to sing praise to you
To pay homage to Africa
We are not here to moan
To complain
Yet, because you are a contradiction
Your story is a contradiction
In praising you
We also moan for you
And your lost glory
But we must tell your story
Tell it all
So that future generations of Africans
Will never forget your agonies
Your pains
Your defeats
Your victory
And the impending redemption of your majestic past.
