Martin Farquhar Tupper was an English writer.
It has not yet been possible to determine when and where the poem was first published. (It may have been published first in a British publication, rather than the American Courier.)
He is also the author of another poem published in the Liberia Herald, "A National Anthem for Liberia in Africa: Being a Freewill Offering to the Cause of Wise Emancipation".
