New MA Programs

The English Department is introducing new Master's programs.

From the fall semester 2026 (HS 2026), the English Department will be offering the following programs:

  • English Literature and Linguistics, Major/Minor
  • English Literature, Major/Minor
  • English Linguistics, Major/Minor

As the names of the new programs indicate, these programs will enable students to study both literature and linguistics or specialize in one subject.

More detailed information on all Master’s programs is available on the English Department website: https://www.es.uzh.ch/en/studies/master.html

The final chance to enroll in the current Master’s program English Literature/Linguistics is in the spring semester 2026 (FS 2026).

Students enrolled in the current Master’s program English Literature/Linguistics by the time the new programs are introduced, have two options: either they can remain enrolled in the old Master’s program or switch to one of the new ones in the fall semester 2026.

Option 1: Remaining in the Master’s program English Literature/Linguistics

•    Nothing changes.
•    Students will have sufficient time to finish their studies. The program runs out in the fall semester 2028 (HS 2028)

Option 2: Switching to one of the new Master’s programs

  • The ECTS credits from the old program will be transferred into the new study program. The exception are literature modules when switching into the English Linguistics program and linguistics modules when switching into the English Literature program.
  • Applications for a change in study program are made via the student portal under “My Requests and Invoices”. More information is available on the following website: https://www.students.uzh.ch/en/studyadmin/registration/subjectchange.html
