Guest Lecture Dr. Ruth Scobie (Oxford): "A Beginner’s Guide to the Beginning of Celebrity, 1700-1790"

Students, members of staff, and the general public are cordially invited to a guest lecture by Dr Ruth Scobie from the University of Oxford, who will be speaking about the historical origins of celebrity culture on Monday, 19 March, at 12.15 as part of my lecture course “The Politics of Celebrity”.

Ruth Scobie is a Lecturer in English Literature at Mansfield College, University of Oxford. Her research explores eighteenth and early-nineteenth-century ideas of fame and celebrity in a global context, with a particular focus on the Cook voyages and their circulation in British print and material culture.
