Guest Lecture Dr. Laura Rosseel (KU Leuven)

Students, members of staff, and the general public are cordially invited to a guest lecture by Dr. Laura Rosseel (KU Leuven), entitled "The social meaning of language variation."

Laura Rosseel is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Leuven, Belgium. She wrote her PhD on experimental approaches to studying the social meaning of linguistic variation. Introducing new methodologies from social psychology, she conducted research on attitudes towards regional variation in Belgian Dutch.

As part of Melanie Röthlisberger’s BA seminar “Variationist accounts of language in use: Methods and theory”, Dr Rosseel will give a talk on the perception of linguistic
variation from a quantitative perspective. She will focus in particular on different ways of measuring language attitudes.
