Cultural Memory: Guest Lecture and PhD Workshop

Friday, October 12th, 2018: 16:15 – 18:15 (PLH-1-102)
Evening Lecture - Prof Astrid Erll

“The Afterlives of Odysseus”
The lecture addresses the ways in which Homer’s Odyssey has travelled through time and space for more than 2,500 years and how it reverberates in today’s memory cultures, not least in the current ‘refugee crisis’. Prof Erll will discuss cases of ‘Odyssean memory’ from the Middle Ages to the present day (from Petrarch through Joyce to Ai Weiwei), trying to show what memory studies can bring to the study of literary history – and vice versa.

Saturday, October 13th, 2018: 9:30 – 13:00 (PLH-1-102)
Workshop with Prof. Astrid Erll

“Cultural Memory, (P)Remediation and the ‘Afterlives’ of Literature”
