Mary Tighe, Excerpt from Section VI of Psyche

Editorial Note

In The Collected Poetry of Mary Tighe, Paula R. Feldman and Brian C. Cooney include Tighe's own footnote on "Locendra," mentioned in the second line of the above excerpt from Canto Vi of Psyche: "The immense glaciers, which crown the summit of the mountain of Locendra, supply a lake, and, issuing from this source, the river Reuss flows through the valley of St. Gothard [sic]" (179; emphasis added).

It is, thus, clear that Tighe's poem references the Swiss Alps here.
