- The poem references the medieval Irish poem "Dom-farcai Fidbaidæ Fái" (variously translated as "Writing Out of Doors" or "The Scribe in the Woods"), by an anonymous Irish monk from St. Gallen (i.e. the "St Gall" mentioned in the poem).
