Bachelor Major in English (120 ECTS):Sample Timetables for Part-Time Students

Disclaimer: The applicable legal regulations can be found in the framework ordinance (Rahmenverordnung) and the program regulation (Studienordnung) for the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. The information below is for illustrative purposes only and should be regarded as a recommendation. In case of any contradictions between this document and the legal regulations or between the German version and a translation, only the legal regulations or the German version, respectively, have legal bearing.

Part-Time Students: Two Examples

Please note the following important points:

  • While there is no minimum number of credits per semester, a workload of 60% or more is recommended. (The examples below are for a two-thirds workload.)
  • The two advanced modules Writing Skills & Media Analysis: Explorations and Writing Skills & Media Analysis: Explorations (of which one has to complete at least one) or only offered in the spring semester. This means that it is a bit risky to wait until one's final semester before doing one of these modules. (If you were to fail the module, you'd have to wait until the next spring semester to be able to complete it, i.e. you would not be able to graduate until then.)

None of these sample timetables are binding; they are intended as examples or 'templates.'

Sample Timetable for Part-Time Students: 66.7% (Example 1)

  • We strongly recommend that students start their studies in the fall semester.
  • In the case of two-semester modules, the total number of ECTS points is 'spread out' over two semesters.
  • A full-time workload is 30 ECTS per semester (Major and Minor combined). However, students are free to reduce the workload per semester, thus allowing for part-time study (i.e. there is no minimum number of credits required per semester).
  • The total number of credits for a 66.7% workload is c. 20 ECTS per semester (Major and Minor combined).
  • As the overall requirements for the Bachelor degree stay the same (180 ECTS), taking fewer credits per semester means that one will need more time to complete one's studies.
  • Depending on the requirements of your Minor, the template below will have to be adjusted.
  • Students should not go abroad in their first two semesters or in the final semester of their Bachelor studies. Please consult the Stay Abroad section of the ES website for more details.
